Grecian Gyro started in 1982 when Nick Koulouris opened a shop on Virginia Avenue in Hapeville with fifty dollars and a sauce recipe he never wrote down. That original location is still open, and five more have followed across the metro: Hapeville, Midtown, Tucker, Snellville, Dunwoody and Forest Park. Atlanta Magazine named it the city’s best gyro, and the recipe hasn’t changed — the same grilled pita, sliced meat and Nick’s Famous Grecian Sauce at every counter.
